Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter and City Attorney Sean Surrisi attended a U.S. 30 Coalition legislation day earlier this month where the coalition members engaged with the legislature to put the project before them.
Surrisi told the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission members last week that it was a good turnout and a number of local legislators were there to discuss the project with consultants. The Chair of the House Roads Committee was the keynote speaker.
Surrisi said that goal of the Coalition is to get through to INDOT to commit funding to start the environmental assessment for the freeway project. Surrisi said if all goes to plan, the environmental work may begin this year and the project can get in line of where the other INDOT projects are settling.
If the project was to move forward, construction would not begin for about a decade.
This proposal would upgrade U.S. 30 to freeway standards between Valparaiso and Fort Wayne. In that stretch, the only way to get across U.S. 30 would be with an overpass, and the only way to get on will be at an interchange.
