Plymouth City Council Approves Transportation Funding

The Plymouth City Council members took action on transportation funding for the Marshall County Council on Aging and money for expenses on the city-owned building from where the organization operates.

The city council tabled a decision at their last meeting until Monday night to clear up any confusion about combining the transportation and maintenance funding in a single payment agreement.  Council members were concerned about jeopardizing the allocation of any federal money received by the organization for transportation.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi said that in conversations with Marshall County Council on Aging Director Jackie Wright, combining the transportation money and the maintenance money would be acceptable, but the agreement should specify that the money would be separated in the funds for reporting purposes.

The organization requested an increase in transportation funding from $8,000 to $10,000 while the maintenance funding would stay at $5,000.  Councilman Gary Cook thought maybe they could transfer $2,000 from the maintenance money to make up the transportation increase.  Councilman Jeff Houin noted that the organization is experiencing shortfalls and made a motion to approve the combined amount of $15,000 as presented.  The motion passed by six council members with an abstaining vote from Councilman Bill Walters.
