The Marshall County 4-H Fair Board Association opened bids last week for the proposed multi-use building to be constructed on the grounds of the Marshall County 4-H Fairgrounds in Argos.
Rob Hurford from the Fair Board Association gave an update to the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning.
“We had five bidders all of which were acceptable,” said Hurford. “One of them was relatively close to our budget amount. Our architect took that under advisement and I would assume that here within the next week we’ll probably have a signed contract to go forward with construction.”
Now that the bids have been opened and appear to be within acceptable amounts, the commissioners took action on Monday to approve the sub-recipient agreement between the county, the Marshall County 4-H Fair Board Association and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) with forms submitted by OCRA.
The agreement includes information about a joint title between the county and the Fair Board for a period of five years, an insurance policy involved and the county’s $215,000 funding contribution. With the county’s contribution, a $24,000-a-year payment toward the 4-H Fair Board for operations is halted for a period of nine years which is clarified in the agreement. It may not be needed after that time.
The Fair Board obtained a $500,000 OCRA grant toward the construction of the project that is set to begin this year.
