The wetland mitigation site at 7th Road/Veteran’s Parkway in Marshall County will be getting new tree plantings.
Summer Moore from CHA told the commissioners at an earlier meeting this month that the monitoring report shows the tree survival rate is low at the site.
“We need to plant 390 bare root trees and we recommend they be done in the spring of 2019,” said Moore. “We believe that would put the site in compliance with the agencies involved.”
The initial planting occurred following the new road and bridge construction off of U.S. 31.
CHA has monitored the 20 acre wetland mitigation site for the past three years and is contracted to continue to monitor the site for another seven years.
Moore explained that the company who did the initial planting about four years ago had the cost of replanting some trees as part of the one year warranty. Some of the species of trees were placed in the wrong areas but the contract didn’t allow for the contractor to be liable for another replanting.
Two acres need to be replanted at a cost of $8,700. The commissioners approved an addendum to the contract to allow for the planting to begin in the spring.
