Marshall County Prosecutor Asks for Probationary Pay Waiver

Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman asked the county council members for a waiver of probationary pay for a new employee.

Chipman explained that Caity Keiper has been with his office for about a week as an Assistant Office Manager. She is filling a vacancy left when the previous employee sought other employment after 22 years in the position.

Chipman said she has been doing the same type of work for two-and-a-half years in the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.

“What she has proven to perform in just the first days she’s been with us justifies getting her to the regular pay,” said Chipman.

The county council members approved the waiver of the probationary pay as requested.

Chipman added that he’ll be hiring another person in a prosecutor’s position as previously approved.

“There’s a lot of movement out there after the election particularly in northern Indiana. There were a lot of surprise election results nearby, frankly. We have four official applicants. I have another fella who hasn’t submitted anything, but he contacted me. We’re set up for interviews for that.”

The person hired in that position will begin duties in January.
