Funding is now in place for a superintendent position at the Marshall County Highway Department.
The Marshall County Council members this week approved a transfer of $58,081 into Wages Department Head line item in the budget in 2019 to fund the superintendent’s position next year.
The issue now is a job description for the highway superintendent.
The superintendent’s position was divided into a highway supervisor and highway administrator in 2014. During their first meeting last month, the commissioners voted 2-1 to create the superintendent’s position with Kurt Garner and Mike Delp approving the motion while Kevin Overmyer opposed the motion.
Auditor Julie Fox informed the county council members Monday morning that an old job description exists from the previous administration, but it was recommended to review that ordinance.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer, who was in attendance at Monday’s meeting, said the issue needed to be closed and that the commissioners will work on getting a job description done as long as the council approves the funding for a superintendent’s position. The job description should be presented at next week’s commissioners meeting.
With that, the council approved the transfer with a unanimous vote.
A salary ordinance to reflect that salary change was also approved with a unanimous vote.
In one other transfer request, the county council members approved $1,097.70 into the Wages Department Head line item in order to fulfill the year’s obligation of a pay raise given to Highway Supervisor Jason Peters as recently approved.
