Plymouth City Council Approves Tax Abatement for American Containers, Inc.

A Plymouth manufacturing company will engage in an expansion project in order to increase efficiency and profits with the goal of retaining 61 current employees and remain competitive in the market. A few new employees will also be hired in the process.

American Containers, Inc. officials plan to invest nearly $1.2 million in equipment to improve production capabilities which is supported by a seven-year, personal property tax phase-in process approved by the Plymouth City Council members Monday night. The council approval came following a public hearing and approval of a resolution that adopted the real estate as an Economic Revitalization Area for purposes of personal property tax abatement action.

In a previous city council meeting, American Containers, Inc. President Michael Isban explained that they are looking to expand their operations and upgrading processes by renovating a piece of equipment that would better assemble products for food processing companies. The quicker setup time would improve the output of product.

Another piece of equipment is being developed that would assist workers in putting together a protective product piece when shipping products. The process would go from outputting less than one unit per minute to five pieces a minute. Also, the implementation of the equipment will involve more employees.

American Containers, Inc. began in Plymouth in 1965 and has since grown to three plants nationwide.
