The City of Plymouth now has a Complete Streets plan.
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members approved a resolution Monday night that adopts the policy.
In a previous setting, organization representative Allie Shook explained that the document asks that city officials take into consideration foot and bicycle traffic when introducing new buildings, sidewalks, or road infrastructure. That’s in addition to regular transportation needs.
It calls for safe and accessible multimodal options for people traveling between home, work, school, recreation, and retail. It also asks for mobility options for persons of limited income and encourages a community focused on healthy living, beautification, and economic development which attracts new people and businesses.
Shook explained that the plan will continue to be amended as necessary throughout its life.
Following the approval of the resolution, City Attorney Sean Surrisi noted that the City of Plymouth is one of only a handful of communities in the state that has a Complete Streets policy.
