The Marshall County Commissioners were asked to provide a letter of support in the process of renaming a portion of U.S. 30 in memory of Ray Reed.
Ray Reed, a prominent Plymouth and Marshall County resident, was on duty as an Indiana State Police Master Motor Carrier Inspector on Aug. 3, 1995 when he stopped to inspect a semi tractor-trailer and was struck and killed by an oncoming semi hauling cattle.
A memorial marker was placed on the north side of U.S. 30 east of Oak Road, but a movement continues to name a portion of U.S. 30 between Pioneer Road and Oak Road after Ray Reed. The request has been given to State Representative Jack Jordan who submitted it to State Representative Ed Soliday who is the leader of the State Transportation Committee.
On Monday morning, the commissioners unanimously voted in favor of drafting a letter of support for naming a portion of U.S. 30 as the Ray Reed Memorial. County Attorney Jim Clevenger will get the letter prepared for state officials.
