The downtown area in Bremen has taken on a different look to gather public opinion on a future project.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said the area has been transformed to include bumpouts as it is planned in a future street and sidewalk improvement project planned in 2020.
“We extended our downtown sidewalks eight feet on both sides of the street and narrowed our street a little bit,” said Weldy. “This is a temporary project to get people’s reactions and what they think – what they like and don’t like – so we can see going forward what we need to do when we get ready to do our downtown streets, sidewalks and new landscaping project in 2020.”
The overall plan is to lower the streets eight to ten inches and resurface State Road 106 from Montgomery Street to Washington Street. INDOT will provide funding for that part of the project that is estimated around $1.3 million. The Town of Bremen will replace the curbs and sidewalks and new lighting will be installed downtown.
