Plymouth School Board Finalizes Policy Updates

The Plymouth Community School Corporation has updated its policies on anti-harassment, nondiscrimination, and the employment of substitute teachers, among others. On Tuesday, the school board approved a list of policy updates recommended by policy consultant NEOLA.

Superintendent Andy Hartley explained that one of the changes has to do with the records that the school corporation is required to keep following certain incidents. Certain procedures related to the Americans with Disabilities Act also got an update. Clarifications were made to the corporation’s drug and alcohol testing policy for employees with a Commercial Driver’s License and those who perform “safety-sensitive functions.”

Additionally, the school board approved the Teacher Appreciation Grant distribution policy for the 2018-2019 school year. Stipends given to highly-effective-rated teachers will be 25-percent higher than those given to teachers with just an “effective” rating. New to this year’s policy is the ability to add up to 50 percent of the stipend amount to a teacher’s base salary.

Hartley said most of the policy revisions reflect updates to state statute and federal regulations.
