The Culver School Board approved an agreement related to the development of the Cavalier Sports Park Monday. Superintendent Karen Shuman says the project is part of Culver’s Stellar Community Designation. “They’re putting three soccer fields, a concession stand with restrooms, and a small toddler park, and then expanding the parking,” she told board members.
Shuman explained that the project is being funded, in part, by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. The OCRA sub agreement approved by the school board Monday will allow the corporation to receive that grant funding. “Initially, they were just going to create a lease agreement,” she said. “OCRA wanted that lease agreement for 50 years. We didn’t want to do a 50-year lease on such a thing. So they’ve made us a sub- recipient. So in making us a sub-recipient, it just is that the money looks like it’s being awarded to us and the town, and then they are able to move forward because we’re a sub-recipient.”
The Cavalier Sports Park will be built on school-owned land near the corporation’s administration office.
