The Marshall County Commissioners and Highway Supervisor Jason Peters will be looking into several complaints from a Bourbon resident on the road conditions on Fir Road.
Pat Walters said Fir Road north of U.S. 30 was paved a few years ago without the berms being complete. Some driveway approaches were also paved while others were not. He mentioned that high-profile vehicles are using the road when there is clear signage restricting thru-trucks on that road with no police enforcement.
He also said Fir Road at U.S. 30 should have a red flashing light or “dangerous intersection” sign installed there.
Walters added that snow plows are going faster than the recommended 30 mph speed.
He demanded that county officials attend to Fir Road.
“Fir Road is deteriorating quickly because of all of the traffic, semi traffic, and the cement trucks that run up and down Fir Road. I believe the Fir Road is probably the busiest road in the eastern half of Marshall County outside of [State Road] 331,” said Walters.
Peters responded to Walters concerns stating that the county highway still has to do some berm work on the road and it was on the schedule to be done this year. The highway department is still attempting to get its road program completed for this year.
Peters noted that the paved driveways done in the Fir Road project were likely replacing the ones already there and the county provided limestone for the gravel driveways to match the approaches.
The commissioners indicated that they’d follow up with more information at a later time.
