The Marshall County Election Board members unanimously approved the Plymouth High School as a Vote Center in this November General Election.
The board members entertained the proposal after representatives from the school corporation suggested that the high school be used as a Vote Center the day of the election. The school staff is attempting to increase the number of student voters during elections. The board members agreed that this could draw more people to vote, including school-aged children eligible to cast a ballot.
The election board normally provides a security officer at the Vote Centers, and the school will be coordinating with them to further plan the security aspect at the school.
With the addition of the school, the board may decide to eliminate a Vote Center. They agreed to talk to the officials at the National Guard Armory to check on the availability of the building for the November General Election. The building was closed for the Primary Election due to ongoing renovation efforts and there are portions of that project to be finished. If that site is not available, an alternate location may be sought to accommodate voters on the west side of Plymouth.
A more definitive plan will be discussed at the board’s next meeting on Tuesday, Apr. 21 at 8:30 a.m. The Vote Center Plan will also need to be amended and sent to the Indiana Election Division.
