Plymouth Community School Corporation Ready for Start of School Year

Today’s the first day of school for Plymouth students. Superintendent Andy Hartley says school employees have been busy getting ready.

“Our custodians and maintenance staff really have been working tirelessly to ensure that we have clean and ready school buildings fit for our students,” Hartley told the school board last night. “Our technology staff have been working hard through necessary upgrades to ensure that system is ready. Our bus drivers have been going to their required trainings and practicing their routes to ensure our students get to and from school safety, if they do happen to ride the bus. Cafeteria staff is prepared to provide breakfast and lunch for our kids.” Teachers had their start-of-the-year meetings yesterday.

Students may notice a few new faces when they return to class. Kyle Coffman begins his first year as principal of Riverside Intermediate School. He took a few minutes during last night’s school board meeting to introduce three of the school’s new teachers.

Warsaw native Tyler Houvener is joining Riverside as a sixth grade math and science teacher. Kelly White will be a fifth grade project based learning teacher, after having taught at Bremen Elementary/Middle School. Sarah Gillard comes to Riverside with three years of experience at the middle school level, as well as teaching experience at Ancilla College. She’ll teach science and social studies.

The school board formally appointed them to those positions Tuesday, along with a number of other personnel items.
