A request was considered by the Marshall County Commissioners to lower the speed limit on 18B Road that includes State Road 117 ending at Queen Road South in addition to a half mile on Queen Road North.
Nine residents in that area known as Maxinkuckee Village petitioned the commissioners for a lower speed limit in the area. The current limit is 40 mph, but since the area has narrow roads and lacks sidewalks, it poses a hazard with increased pedestrian traffic. The petition asked for a reduction to 20 mph, but the commissioners settled for a lower speed limit to 30 mph.
County Attorney Jim Clevenger drafted an ordinance that would amend the speed limit to the commissioners’ suggestion of 30 mph. The ordinance did pass on first reading last week with a unanimous vote by the commissioners. The ordinance will be up for the next series of readings at their next meeting.
