Maxinkuckee Village Residents File Speed Limit Petition

Nine residents in the Maxinkuckee Village petitioned the Marshall County Commissioners for a lower speed limit in the area.

The area includes State Road 117 and 18B Road, ending at Queen Road South in addition to a half mile on Queen Road North.

The petition calls for a speed limit to be reduced from 40 mph to 20 mph. The Maxinkuckee Village has experienced an increase in pedestrian and cyclist traffic in a congested area. The road is narrow and hilly and has no sidewalks.

The commissioners discussed the possibility of including signs on 18B Road that alerts of a reduced speed limit which is 40 mph. A traffic count was also suggested.

County Attorney Jim Clevenger said he may draft an amendment to the speed limit ordinance to decrease the speed limit to 30 mph, depending on the final decision of the board.

The commissioners will look more closely at the area and come up with a more definitive decision in an upcoming meeting.
