A Plymouth High School English teacher has been promoted to assistant principal. Josh Martin was appointed to the position by the school board Thursday, at the recommendation of Superintendent Andy Hartley. “Josh has been at Plymouth High School for quite some time now, has served in many roles: an English Department teacher, department chair for the past several years, has been a lead teacher, has also served as our head boys soccer coach,” Hartley said. “We had nearly 40 applicants for the position, and Josh rose to the top and will be a great addition to that administrative team as they continue to progress.”
Laura Kruyer was on the committee of teachers who interviewed the candidates. She said part of what excited the committee members was the knowledge that Martin can hit the ground running because of his experience with the corporation.
Martin told the school board he appreciates the opportunity to join a great administrative team and that he wants to make an impact on the students. He replaces Kyle Coffman, who’s taking over as principal at Riverside Intermediate School.
Martin’s appointment came along with a larger administrative restructuring at Plymouth High School. Hartley explained that current Dean of Students Ken Olson will now have the official title of assistant principal. Meanwhile, Weidner School of Inquiry will now have one director, rather than two co-directors, following Michael Delp’s appointment as athletic director. “We are reducing one administrator at the high school, as we absorbed one of the directors from WSOI, as Mr. [Michael] Delp shifted in there,” Hartley explained. “With that, roles and responsibilities will change for the two supporting administrators for Mr. [Jim] Condon, where there’ll be more of an assistant principal role.”
Hartley said Olson’s transfer from dean of students to assistant principal will result in a pay raise of about $1,600, due to an increase in the days of service.
