Culver town officials are attempting to move forward with ridding the town of unsafe properties.
Culver Town Attorney Jim Clevenger explained that recent hearings created some progress in this quest.
The action of demolition is allowed to proceed at 808 Obipso Street. The action can’t take place until Aug. 15 to allow the property owner the chance to file an objection. The cost of demolition would then be placed as a lien against the property and that cost would be recovered once the land is sold. Court costs and attorney fees may also be collected along with the lien action, but that has yet to be decided.
As far as the City Tavern building at 415 Lakeshore Drive, a Marshall County/Culver Unsafe Building Committee found the property to be unsafe, according to Clevenger. Orders were issued as far as that designation, but it has to be filed with the court with the process in order. The county and the town could share expenses in this case.
The committee members were given notice that alleges the property at 438 S. Ohio Street is an unsafe property. The committee will pursue an order for authority to enter the structure and investigate whether or not the structure is unsafe. Until then town officials can pursue other ordinance violations.
