The Bremen Town Council members took action this week to proceed in applying for a planning grant through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs for the proposed downtown revitalization project.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said an ordinance and two resolutions were approved to go forward with the process.
“From Montgomery Street to Washington Street, we’re going to tear up all of the sidewalks and the street and replace the sidewalks, curbs and street,” said Weldy. “We’ll put new light poles in and new downtown amenities like benches so people can stop while they’re downtown. The new street poles will probably have speakers or a sound system included in them so when we have parades, Oktoberfest or other activities somebody can speak and everyone can hear what they’re saying in the downtown area.”
The downtown revitalization project is anticipated to begin in 2020 in coordination with the Indiana Department of Transportation. INDOT has already earmarked $1.2 million for this project.
