Recycling pick-up in the town of Argos will now be conducted every other week. Representatives with town’s trash service provider Republic Services recently asked officials to make the switch to alternating weeks.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said that since the town’s garbage service contract ends next year, officials have been researching what different providers offer and they all have similar policies when it comes to recycling.
She explained, “We are one of the few towns that have every week recycling. We’ve pretty much been told by almost every major trash company that they’d only be willing to do every other week recycling.”
Mullaney said in order to keep a good business relationship with their existing provider, they decided to try it out. Town Council members finalized their decision to switch to every other week when they met last Wednesday.
Mullaney added that some informational pamphlets that include ways that residents can improve recycling practices will be sent out in the future to inform them of some recent changes to contamination allowances. In the meantime, be sure to empty, rinse and dry all recyclable materials thoroughly.
