Plymouth Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson updated the Plymouth Board of Works and Safety members last week on the water main extension project on West Lake Avenue.
He said all of the easements have been secured for the project and the notice to proceed was given on Monday, June 11.
The water main extension will allow city water service to the location of the yet-to-be-constructed Autumn Trace. Autumn Trace will be an assisted living facility.
Davidson said crews will be tackling this project in a different manner. The piping was going to come from facilities in Houston, Texas, but last year’s hurricane shut down production at the plants which would put the project behind four to five months.
“We will be open-cutting the project, even around the curve. That material is available. The price per foot is the same. There may be a little more restoration cost associated with the project. Due to the timing of Autumn Trace needing water for construction, this was our best option,” explained Davidson.
The board members did not have any questions about the changes.
The water main extension will begin in the next two weeks.
