The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members considered a right-of-way request from PEG Broadband for the installation of several thousand linear feet of fiber optic cable.
The company would like install conduit and fiber in the amount of 7,670 lineal feet in the right-of-way starting on West Jefferson Street from the west corporation limit line to the west right-of-way line on Michigan Street. The second segment is 1,370 lineal feet from the east right-of-way line on Pioneer Drive from the city’s corporation line. The third segment involves another section of 890 lineal feet that will be installed for the Plymouth Parks Department in order put up additional antennas to accommodate users for the Blueberry Festival in Centennial Park.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi said it’s the largest single installation of fiber since the city’s Metronet project.
Surrisi presented the information Monday night on behalf of City Engineer Rick Gaul who had some concerns about various discrepancies concerning the right-of-way widths in the submitted designs by Golden Field Services, Inc. He mentioned that it’s like a “design-as-you-go” project which causes concern. Surrisi said Gaul will be adding several notations as part of the licensing agreement for access to the public right-of-way.
“He would like to see added into the agreement that they will follow through with providing “as-built” drawings in coordination that’s necessary to meet that standards that Rick would like to see and what the utilities would like to see.”
A financial guarantee is also part of the agreement. A performance bond was discussed, but will not be added to the agreement as it is a last-minute addition.
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members unanimously approved a motion to approve the licensing agreement as presented with Gaul’s notations as part of the agreement.
