The Marshall County Highway Department recently completed the paving of a one mile section of the proposed walking and biking trail in the Culver Town Park and along the old railroad bed to Culver Academy.
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist noted that the base and paving work was donated by Marshall County officials as an in-kind contribution as part of the Stellar Communities Designation Program. He added that many stellar projects take over a year to get started as federal funds start to come in so to see this project already take shape is having positive impact in the community.
However, Leist says the finishing touches on the trail will take place over time as there is a second section between the Culver Beach Lodge and the lighthouse that requires more engineering. That process may not begin until August or early September. Signs, berming, security features, and bollards will be done by town employees to complete that portion of the trail.
Other projects as part of the Stellar Communities Designation Program are in the works or in the development phase including the Sand Hill Farms workforce development housing project, Cavalier Sports Park and Culver Beach Lodge renovations. The Damore Amphitheater was recently completed and it is situated in the Culver Town Park.
