The Marshall County Council members discussed what type of raises, if any, will be given in the 2019 budget.
Marshall County Auditor Julie Fox reminded the council members that the wage paperwork has not come back yet from Waggoner, Irwin and Scheele. The company did work on the job descriptions for county employees but have not submitted the salary information. Fox said that the company initially said June would be the deadline so they may come back yet this month or early July.
Councilman Bill Githens asked about health insurance costs. Fox said numbers may come in in July when the council begins to analyze the budget.
Fox suggested considering a higher percentage if the council is considering any raises in order to cover any adjustments. Fox said it would be easier to cut from the budget with a higher percentage, if needed.
Councilwoman Penny Lukenbill suggested a four percent raise with the understanding that there are unknowns with the salaries and health insurance costs. Employee raises may not come in around that rate.
The council members approved a recommended motion that the department heads put a four percent increase for salaries to be considered, but figures will most likely be cut at budget time.
