Marshall County Community Crossings Project Nearly Complete

Work is continuing on one of Marshall County’s Community Crossings projects.

Work on South Michigan Street from Dewey Street to State Road 110 is complete. Walsh and Kelly Project Manager Nick Relias told MAX News that the milling and paving project took about a week to complete. An inch of asphalt was removed and an inch-and-half of asphalt was installed. Striping will be complete soon.

This project was funded through INDOT’s Community Crossings program. The county provided a match for this project. The other 2017 Community Crossings funded project was Beech Road from 3rd Road to U.S. 6.

In the meantime, Walsh and Kelly crews are finishing up work on North Michigan Street from 1st Road to Tyler. Paving should be complete on Monday with striping to follow. Crews milled an inch of asphalt off of the road and replaced it with an inch-and-a-half of asphalt. This project was bid as a Community Crossings project, but it was not funded with Community Crossings funds. Money was appropriated by the Marshall County Council.

Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters recently told Marshall County officials that the millings are being utilized by his department for other paving projects in the county which is a large cost savings to the county.
