Marshall County Attorney Jim Clevenger created two draft ordinances for County Commissioners to look over prior to official consideration.
When the commissioners met last Monday, Clevenger asked them to check their emails for a few draft ordinances that he recently drew up.
Clevenger explained that one ordinance he drafted would prohibit the use of off-road vehicles in the two county-owned forests, including the Marshall County Forest as well as Mill Pond Forest.
In a May meeting, Commissioner Mike Delp shared that that motorized vehicles are causing significant damage to the trails in the Marshall County Forest. At that time, commissioners discussed the possibility of putting up signs to keep vehicles off the trails. However, Clevenger informed them the signs wouldn’t be enforceable without an ordinance so he went to work preparing one that would address the concerns.
At last week’s meeting, the attorney said he also drafted an ordinance at the request of Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel. The document pertains to charging a fee for when a public records request is submitted for electronic data. He stated that he was waiting for a response from Sheriff Hassel before bringing it to the commissioners for their consideration during a meeting.
He encouraged the commissioners to let him know if they see anything that needs to be amended in either ordinance. Clevenger said it is likely that both documents will be up for first reading at the next commissioners’ meeting.
