The Culver Community Schools Corporation is working to clarify its policies when it comes to eLearning. A new eLearning policy was approved by the school board Monday, at the recommendation of Superintendent Karen Shuman.
“We’ve looked at policy, and we’ve talked with NEOLA and talked with other school corporations, and have created an extensive policy that kind of explains the expectations of eLearning, regardless of what type of employee you are,” she explained. “And then there’ll be further eLearning stuff put in the student handbooks as we move forward, after this policy is adopted.”
Shuman said the 2018-2019 school calendar calls for three scheduled “eLearning flex days.” The first is the day after Labor Day. The other two coincide with parent/teacher conferences. Shuman said that will allow teachers to meet with parents and educate students in the same day. “In past, they had the day off after parent/teacher conferences,” she said, “so we’ve eliminated that day off, to help reduce the full expanse of the whole school calendar year.”
eLearning may also be used when regular classes have to be canceled due to weather.
