Yellow River Festival organizer Eric Anderson alerted the Plymouth Board of Public Works members Monday night that more intense weapon demonstrations will occur during this year’s festival as WWII information is available to festival goers.
Anderson explained that trained professionals and hobbyists will present weapons demonstrations, but no live rounds will be used. An air gun that resembles a machine gun will be demonstrated and light rifles are expected to be fired. A cannon to open the festival is anticipated, but it will be moved to a different location with a much lighter charge. If there are complaints about noise, the cannon will no longer be fired. It will be fired at the beginning of the festival on Saturday, June 2 at 10 a.m. when it opens and when it closes on Sunday, June 3.
Anderson said there will be an effort made to the residents in the immediate area to alert them about the demonstrations.
The board members approved the request to fire a cannon to start and end the festival.
The Yellow River Festival will be held at the River Park Square in Plymouth on Saturday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. More details on events and food during the festival will be given in future newscasts.
