Declining enrollment and state funding continue to cause concerns for the Culver Community Schools Corporation. In an update to the school board last week, Corporation Treasurer Casey Howard said that enrollment was about 1,073 students during the 2009-2010 school year. She said it’s now just under 739 students.
Not only has enrollment declined, but state funding per-student has also dropped. Howard said Culver Schools got about $6,800 per student in 2009, but barely $6,100 in 2017-2018.
One way the school corporation could boost its General Fund revenues is with an operating referendum. Right now, the Culver School Board is weighing the possibility of holding one this November.
Howard pointed out that the Culver school district currently has one of the lowest property tax rates in the area. She said the highest were Argos and Knox.
