Triton School Board Adjusts Bus Driver Pay Scale to be More Competitive

In order to recruit more bus drivers, Triton School Board members amended their bus driver pay scale when they met Monday night.

Superintendent Jeremy Riffle said that having a shortage of available bus drivers is a pretty common problem for most schools right now. Riffle said he made some calls to surrounding school corporations to get a more competitive pay scale established for Triton’s drivers.

Superintendent Riffle said, “For level zero it’s $65 and it goes all the way up to level 25 where it’s $86.” The superintendent explained that a bus driver at “level zero” is still in their first year of employment.

He further elaborated, saying that when a driver works for 5 to 15 years with the corporation, they can make $80 to $83 a day with the new pay scale. Those individuals with 15 to 25 years of Triton school bus driving experience can make up to $86 a day.

Riffle and school officials are hoping the adjustment to the pay scale will draw in some more school bus drivers to the Triton School Corporation.
