Argos officials are still seeking members for the town’s Plan Commission. Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney stated that there are still four open seats remaining.
Mullaney explained, “We still need people for the Plan Commission because we only have five members and we need nine. We have to have an even balance so they [all of the members] cannot be of the same political affiliation.”
Mullaney noted that it is specifically difficult to find any local Democrats. In order to keep the Plan Commission balanced, any Argos Residents associated with the Democratic Party are especially encouraged to volunteer since the majority of current members are Republicans.
A municipalities’ Plan Commission is entrusted with handling planning and zoning matters and members make decisions and recommendations regarding land use. There is no set date or times for meetings because the Argos Plan Commission meets on an “as needed” basis.
Residents looking to get involved can submit a letter of interest at the Clerk’s Office at 201 W Walnut Street. Letters will be presented in an open town council meeting where members will consider the eligibility of the candidate and decide whether or not to appoint them to the commission.
