Marshall County officials are working toward getting information together to present to the Stellar Communities Designation officials this fall for a chance to be named the 2018 regional designee.
A meeting is set for May 31 at Swan Lake Resort at 9 a.m. to go over results from the Marshall County Crossroads survey. Residents have until May 22 to complete the survey and a link to that survey is available here. A team of specialists from Ball State University will assist Marshall County officials with what information should be included in the regional stellar application.
Marshall County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer explained to the county council Monday morning that they are expecting a $20,000 planning grant from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs to help with planning for this designation application. He asked the council to create a line item in the commissioners’ budget in order to receipt that money as well as contributions from other government agencies in the county. So far, officials from the towns of Argos, Bourbon, Culver and Bremen have pledged $5,000 apiece toward the effort while LaPaz pledged $1,000. The Plymouth City Council will consider a $5,000 request at a future meeting. The Marshall County Economic Development Corporation will put forward $5,000 and about $10,000-$15,000 may be transferred from the special projects for economic development fund within the county’s budget to also include toward the initiative. The county council unanimously agreed to establish a Regional Stellar Designation fund.
The county will be working with The Troyer Group in the planning aspect as they assisted the Town of Culver in their application for stellar designation.
