The Marshall County Commissioners are considering an update in lighting to save on energy bills.
Bruce Breeden from Telamon Energy Corporation presented an analysis on costs of current lighting bills compared to what the county could save in an LED lighting upgrade. Three buildings were reviewed for cost estimates for the proposal.
Taking a look at the Marshall County Building, Marshall County Courthouse and the engineering buildings the initial cost would be around $73,500 for new LED fixtures, lights and tubes with a total rebate of $9,300 from NIPSCO with a net cost of $64,200. The county would save $31,000 in a year with a return of investment in two years.
Breeden noted that the tubes and bulbs have a 50,000 hour life and they’re expected to last about 12 years.
If the commissioners decide to move forward with the project, it would go out to bid with bids to be approved by the commissioners.
The commissioners did not make a decision Monday morning, but they will discuss it during budget time coming up in the next few months for a possible funding in 2019.
