Marshall County Auditor Julie Fox requested another full-time staff member for her department.
She told the Marshall County Council members on Monday morning that her current staff members, including part-time employees, are at capacity with work obligations.
“Reviewing the obligations placed upon our office there’s a continued increase in legislative duties, calendaring, grants that have come on, Memorandum of Understanding papers that need to be tracked along with all of the contracts that the commissioners approve and ordinances that go along with them. They’re all legislative requirements that they deal with,” said Fox.
She noted that her office was reduced one staff member in 2005 and she would like to add that position in a full-time capacity at a rate of $18.76 an hour. That employee would help track ordinances, resolutions and grants along with general filing duties and regular correspondence.
A combination of parcels is also creating more work for employees on top of other requirements.
Councilman Jon VanVactor asked if the request could be brought up at budget time, but Fox said she’d rather not wait. If an additional full-time staff member is approved at budget time, she’d have to wait until January for that person to start. She’d rather have that person start sooner.
The financial impact of a new hire is $46,525 with benefits.
VanVactor made a motion to take up the request at budget time. The motion was approved with a 6-1 vote with Heath Thornton, James Masterson, Don Morrison, Judy Stone, Jon VanVactor, and Bill Githens supporting the vote. Penny Lukenbill opposed the vote.
