A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Trion Junior-Senior High School auxiliary gym earlier this week.
School officials marked the start of the project on Monday by planting shovels and digging up soil at the site where the new gym will be constructed.
The school corporation is working with the architecture and engineering firm Barton-Coe-Vilamaa and the construction company Michael Kinder & Sons on this project. School representatives shared that the project is anticipated to be completed in 2019.
The auxiliary gym project is beginning just as another project has wrapped up. Superintendent Jeremy Riffle mentioned that after the groundbreaking ceremony, school board members took a trip over to the existing gym to see the brand new floor that was recently installed there.
The company Cedar Creek Flooring completed $185,000 worth of work at the Junior-Senior High School to remove damaged material and install new flooring after a flooding incident damaged the gymnasium floor back in January.
