With Marshall County becoming a finalist for the regional Stellar Communities Designation Program, officials with the Town of Bremen are putting together their list of projects to be included in the program that could bring $8-$10 million in unmatched funds into the county.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said a group from Marshall County recently attended the state meeting that presented an update on deadlines for paperwork throughout the process before presentations are given in September and the award announcement in December.
Weldy said there are several projects that the town is considering including a downtown event center.
“We want to buy a house downtown, tear it down and build a small pavilion on it,” said Weldy. “We just want a building to host events downtown. We’re also planning a community billboard project where the old Clark Station was here in town. The school and us and different organizations in town can have an information sign that will tell everyone what’s happening in town. Another project is a big housing project on school property just south of the high school baseball diamond. We’re looking at maybe a 40 apartments – 35 single family houses going in there. Plus, there’s the lift station project and the downtown renovation project.”
The Town of Bremen is working with all of the other towns and cities in the county to capture stellar status. Marshall County is one of six finalists named in the process.
