An amended 2018 road program was presented to the Marshall County Commissioners on Monday morning.
About 12.75 miles of roads will receive an overlay, wedge and level or base repair and resurfacing this summer. The highway department also plans to get 11.25 miles of double chip seal work while 35.50 miles will be devoted to chip and seal.
The county hopes to subcontract for work needed on Kenilworth from 3rd Road to U.S. 6 and Dogwood Road from U.S. 6 to Tyler Road to ensure the work gets done this year. The repair would call for a hot mix material to repair the roads.
Several reclaimed roads will be sealed this year but many will be left. Some will be ground up this year due to their condition. Commissioner Kevin Overmyer will be discussing the decision to leave Underwood Road from 18A to 19B road as a gravel road with the handful of homeowners who live on that stretch of road.
The total cost of this work to be done is estimated at $1.7 million.
The major roads from flooding that will be done by the county include 5A, Maple and Sycamore from State Road 17 to 9C Road. The county council approved $1.5 million in Rainy Day Funds to repair roads, culverts and bridges that were damaged due to the floods in February.
Highway Supervisor Jason Peters hopes that all of this work can be done this summer.
