Culver Town Council President Ginny Bess Munroe told the town council members last week that she had the chance to help county officials with a letter of intent to seek Stellar status.
Munroe worked with Marshall County Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Jerry Chavez to get the letter of intent submitted by the April 6 deadline. They were successful in getting that done. Town Manager Jonathan Leist added that one potential project could be the third phase in Culver’s bike and pedestrian trail. The project is expected to cost around $1 million.
The Stellar Communities Designation Program, which is offered through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, will now focus on encouraging towns, cities and counties to form partnerships to develop comprehensive solutions to regional and local challenges throughout rural Indiana. The Town of Culver was designated as a Stellar Community in the fall of 2017. A few of the town’s projects within that program will begin this year. Many of the paving projects won’t happen for another couple of years. Funding is good for about four years through the state partnership program.
