The Bremen Town Council members are working on paperwork for a downtown project in 2020.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said the town is getting preliminary paperwork and designs ready while the Indiana Department of Transportation is doing the same.
The town is planning to apply for a $40,000 planning grant which will be matched by the town in the amount of $4,500 along with work to obtain a $1.5 million grant through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs for the project.
The plan is to lower the streets eight to ten inches and resurface State Road 106 from Montgomery Street to Washington Street. INDOT will provide funding for that part of the project that is estimated around $1.3 million. The Town of Bremen will replace the curbs and sidewalks and new lighting will be installed downtown.
