Argos Town Council members approved a $3,000 donation to the Marshall County Council on Aging when they met Wednesday night.
The executive director of the organization, Jacqueline Wright, came before the council to request a donation of $1,000 to $3,000 in order to help cover operation costs. She informed members that Argos has a substantial aging population.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney explained that since the organization provides a valuable service to the community, members voted to give the maximum amount requested.
“They provide transportation to the elderly and disabled and they also do it for veterans.” Mullaney explained, “Since the Town of Argos doesn’t really have a grocery store or a laundry-mat and stuff like that, people in town need that service. That’s why we decided to go ahead and give them a donation.”
In addition to providing the donation this year, members also voted to add the $3,000 donation as a budget line item so the Council on Aging will receive that amount annually.
Mullaney added that while the organization focuses on those with mobility issues, the service is available to everyone, however, anyone younger than 65 would need to pay a fee while the service is free to those over 65.
