The part-time code enforcement officer position will have to wait.
Marshall County Planning Commission President Stan Klotz presented the Marshall County Council members on Monday morning with the proposed job description for the position. The wages would be between $17.40 and $20.05 an hour based on a 15-hour work week.
The position was proposed after Klotz noted that code enforcement was lacking in the county and people are not taking responsibility for their properties. The issue was discussed with the planning commission who came up with an approved job description that was presented to the county’s consultant who specializes in that aspect. The code enforcement officer would handle enforcement and represent the county on issues taken to court. That person would answer to the planning commission.
Council President Judy Stone asked Klotz if a formal resignation letter has been submitted by Planning Director Ralph Booker. As mentioned in previous meetings, Booker’s last day is June 30. Klotz said formal notification has not been made.
Commissioner Mike Delp, who is the commissioner’s representative on the planning commission, suggested that the council wait until a new plan director is hired and see how everything goes from there. Stone agreed, saying that things may change with a new person in the position. Klotz also agreed, in part, but mentioned that the idea of getting the job description approved and someone in place could help in the transition phase of a new plan director.
Councilman Bill Githens made a motion to approve the job description with a second by Heath Thornton. When a vote was taken James Masterson, Judy Stone, Don Morrison and Jon VanVactor all opposed the vote with Penny Lukenbill abstaining. The job description was denied by a lack of support.
