If you’re seeking more ways to assist local children, you’ll have plenty of opportunities this week during CASA of Marshall County Information Days.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Marshall County is a non-profit organization that is committed to speaking in the best interest of children who are abused or neglected. CASA recruits train and support volunteers to assist these kids in the family court system.
This week several local libraries will be hosting a CASA Information Day where people can come find out more about the program. Today, CASA representatives will be at the Bourbon Public Library providing information.
You can also receive information about how to become a CASA volunteer on Tuesday at the Plymouth Public Library. On Wednesday, representatives will be at the Culver-Union Township Public Library and on Thursday an information day will be held at the St. Joseph Public Library in Lakeville. All of those events will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. ET.
At 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 16th you can receive CASA information at the Argos Public Library. If you happen to miss your chance during the week, no need to worry, there is one more event available this Saturday at Bremen Public Library from 10:30 a.m. until noon.
Though no special background or education is necessary, there are a few qualifications that individuals have to meet. According to CASA representatives, to be a volunteer you must be 21 years of age or older, you must care about children, have the ability to remain objective and possess the maturity to deal with complex and emotional situations. They also ask for individuals who have the ability to communicate orally and in writing, those who can work compatibly with others and have a commitment to complete the initial training.
