The transfer contract between David’s Courage, Inc. and Marshall County for occupancy of the Shady Rest Home has been approved with a few modifications.
According to County Attorney Jim Clevenger, facilitators Gregg Erickson and Ted Hayden asked the commissioners to drop the requirement that the facility continue to be named Shady Rest Home. A different designation was not provided at the time of discussions.
Another amendment included a requirement concerning state residential care licensing. The previous tenant of the Shady Rest Home, The Bowen Center, was required by law to carry this licensing due to the level of mental health care to patients. David’s Courage, Inc. will offer addiction recovery services and counseling services where that provision is not required. Instead, Clevenger put wording into the contract that David’s Courage, Inc. will run the facility according to all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
A closing date will be set in the next 60 days as stated in the contract.
With that, the commissioners agreed with the modifications and voted unanimously to approve the transfer contract of the county-owned Shady Rest Home facility to David’s Courage, Inc. for $1.00.
David’s Courage, Inc. will provide addiction counseling services to those seeking assistance as recommended by the Marshall County Community Corrections program. All other interested parties will be carefully screened before entering the program.
