Triton Elementary School Participates in Service Project to Help Residents With Potential Laundry Needs

In response to flooding in the Town of Bourbon, teachers at Triton Elementary School have come up with a quick service project to assist residents who are not currently able to utilize the washing machines in their homes.

According to Fourth Grade Teacher Casi Painton, they’re working to put together some small laundry care packages with detergent pods and quarters for families who may need to utilize the laundry mat to get clean clothes. The packages, which contain enough quarters and detergent pods for two loads of laundry, can be picked up at the Bourbon Public Library or Bourbon Town Office.

Painton and fellow teachers Jenny Mevis and Shawna Shively are taking care of the detergent and students and faculty members are working to collect quarters. They will be collecting them through March 1st.

According to Painton, quarter containers were passed out to classrooms and at 2 p.m. each day, all the coins will be collected and counted. In an announcement she emailed to faculty, she said the classroom with most quarters in each hallway will get to have a cookie party.

Triton Superintendent Jeremy Riffle said this project is allowing students to learn what it looks like to be apart of something bigger than themselves. He said Triton’s vision is to be an organization that measures their success by the way they touch people’s lives and these students and teachers are doing just that.

If you have a Triton Elementary School student, send them to school with some quarters. If you have any questions or if you want to know how you can help, contact Casi Painton at (574) 342-2355 ext: 226
