A lot of snow has fallen on holidays and the weekends this winter and officials are starting to watch funds in overtime budgets.
Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters told the Marshall County Council members this week that he may ask for an additional appropriation later this year to cover the fund through paving season.
He said he’s proud of the crews and they’ve kept up with clearing roads of snow and ice. He noted that there haven’t been too many complaints maintaining the roads this winter. There’s not much that can be done to cut back on paying overtime in winter operations as public safety is vital.
Peters also asked the council for a waiver of probationary pay for an employee. The assistant clerk moved to the clerk’s position and with the amount of experience gathered at the highway department and the tasks she’s undertaking, Peters requested that the probationary pay be waived. The county council members approved the request with a unanimous vote.
