The Marshall County Health Department will offer free tetanus booster shots for those who have been working in and around flood waters.
Health Administrator Christine Stinson said residents may be wounded and exposed to the bacteria that causes tetanus through an open wound. She noted that tetanus is rare, but it can be fatal. Tetanus is preventable by an immunization shot. A booster shot is recommended every 10 years. The booster shot is usually combined with diphtheria and pertussis vaccines known as “Tdap”.
Walk-ins will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the basement of the Community Resource Center at 510 W. Adams Street in Plymouth.
