Doc Bowen Day Set in Bremen

Every year on Feb. 26, the Bremen community celebrates the life and accomplishments of Dr. Otis R. Bowen who served as Indiana’s Governor and as Secretary of Health and Human Serves under President Ronald Reagan, among many other lifetime achievements.

Dr. Bowen passed away in 2013. On Feb. 26, 2018, the Town of Bremen will recognize what would have been his 100th birthday.

According to the Bremen Community Cares organization, specialty flags will be flown in downtown Bremen and colored portraits completed by elementary students will be displayed. A special birthday party lunch will be held at the Community Hospital of Bremen on Friday, Feb. 23. A proclamation proclaiming Feb. 26 as “Doc Bowen Day” will be read aloud on that day at noon at the Bremen Town Hall.

As part of the festivities, posters of green glasses similar to the ones Doc Bowen wore all the time will be featured at all of the downtown businesses.
