Engineering plans are being finalized for work on the Sand Hill Farms workforce housing development project in Culver.
According to Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist, Mark Sullivan and Utility Superintendent Bob Porter have been working on the plans and the project should be bid out in February.
Leist added that the town planned to use $79,000 in State Revolving Fund loans for the water extension at that site on W. Jefferson Street. Sullivan recommended using a different source of funds as using SRF funds could slow down the process. There are other water projects where those funds could be useful. Council President Ginny Bess Munroe said the council members originally budgeted the funds from the General Fund. A motion to that effect may be required in a future meeting.
The Sand Hill Farms workforce housing development project will provide housing for those seeking one, two or three bedroom apartments who want to make Culver their home. The project helps complete goals of increasing housing and population, plus an increase in enrollment and economy in Culver. The development will be constructed at 540 W. Jefferson Street. A ribbon cutting ceremony for the project was held in November. It is just one of the town of Culver’s Stellar Communities Designation Program projects. If plans move forward, another phase could include low-income housing at a nearby location.
