The winter weather has put a dent in the Town of Culver’s road salt supply.
Town Manager Jonathan Leist told the Culver Town Council members Tuesday night that half of the town’s salt supply has been used to help clear roads in town so far this season. He assured the council members that the town’s contract with the salt supplier allows the town to purchase more at the current rate if the supply reaches a critical level.
A resident asked about snow removal in alleyways. Leist explained that the street department plows alleys last because the main plow trucks are too big to fit down the alleys and main roads are first priority. They aren’t able to salt the alleys because a smaller plow truck completes the task and is not equipped to spread salt. The area of Forest Place was noted as an area of concern.
Council Vice President Sally Ricciardi said she usually calls town hall to report any areas that need plowing attention and suggested that may be a solution to address problem spots.
Leist said he will discuss the feedback with Utility Superintendent Bob Porter.
